In winter, the red fox grows a heavy coat of fur for warmth. Even during the coldest days, the red fox prefers to sleep outside rather than in a den. After a long night of hunting for food, the fox will curl up into a tight ball, wrap his fluffy tail over his nose, and snooze the day away. Often, the sleeping fox will become covered with new-fallen snow. Even when he is deep in "la-la land", the fox's powerful sense of smell and hearing are constantly at work. At the slightest hint of danger, the fox will spring from his slumber, and in a crimson-red blur across the snow, he's gone . . .
