"Gaaarrrobbble!" It is springtime in the turkey woods, and this old tom is announcing his location to hens and letting them know that he is interested in mating. When a hen answers the tom, he will drop his wingtips, ruffle his feathers, fan his magnificent tail, and go into full strut.

No matter how many times you may have heard it, the gobble of a wild turkey in spring is pure adrenaline rush! On some spring mornings, and excited tom can be coaxed into gobbling by just about any loud noise; a crow call, a train whistle, thunder, even a car door slamming. You can go all summer, fall and winter without seeing or hearing a gobbler, then, when spring arrives, long beards can seem to be gobbling from everywhere. This is a great time to be in the woods, and it's always a thrill to hear a shouting tom!
